Policies
Current COVID-19 Procedures:
5/4/22: Clients are not required to wear a mask at this time.
Booking an appointment:
A valid credit card will now be required to reserve an appointment. There will be no charge to your credit card unless you choose to pay with it at the time of your appointment or in case of a No-Show or Late Cancellation. Please read the No-Show and Late Cancellation policies below.
Cancellation policy:
24-hour advance notice is required when canceling an appointment. This allows the opportunity for someone else to schedule an appointment. If unable to give 24 hours of advance notice, clients will be charged 50% of the full price of the missed appointment. This amount will be charged to the card on file.
No-Shows:
Anyone who either forgets or consciously chooses to miss their appointments for any reason will be considered a no-show. Clients will be charged the full amount of the missed appointment. This amount will be charged to the card on file.
Late Arrivals:
Please plan to arrive on time, or early enough to fill out any paperwork before the session. Massage appointments will end promptly in order to accommodate the appointments that directly follow. Depending on how late the arrival, it will be determined if there is enough time remaining to start the massage session. Regardless of the length of the session actually given, clients will be responsible for the price of the full appointment.
FAQ
Q: You work in an old warehouse?
A: I do! You enter the building under the big arrow and the sign that says ‘Modern Work’, and take the elevator (or BIG stairs) to the third floor. Modern Work is a what’s called a suite style office space. All of the businesses are individually rented by the office space and the waiting areas and meeting spaces are shared. When you get to the third floor, it looks nothing like a warehouse. If you want to check out some of the retro “Mad Men” decor, I can give you a quick tour after your appointment.
Q: What should I wear to my appointment?
A: Please wear clothes that are comfortable. You will be undressing and redressing, so clothes that are simple to get in and out of are preferred.
Q: What do I wear DURING my massage?
A: Before your massage, you will be asked to undress to your comfort level. That is usually an individual choice as to whether you keep your underwear on or take them off. If you want to keep on your bra, or your long basket ball shorts or socks, that’s absolutely fine. I’ll do my best to work around your clothes. But the general rule of thumb is that if you want me to work on it, take the clothes off that cover it.
There are no robes to wear. You will undress alone in the massage room and get between the covers on the massage table. You will be covered by a sheet, I’ll uncover the area of the body that I’m working on and then cover the area back up when I’m done. Areas that are never uncovered are: the breasts, the genitals, and the gluteals (butt).
Q: What should I bring to my appointment?
A: If it’s your first visit, please bring your reading glasses so that you can read and fill out your intake form. If you need to remember your emergency contact’s phone number, go ahead and bring your phone, just make sure to silence it for your appointment. And of course, you’ll need to bring a form of payment for your massage service.
Q: How long does the massage last?
A: I strive to give every client the full 30, 60, or 90 minutes of hands on massage time. That being said, clients who arrive late might not receive the full time. You’ll get all the time that’s left for your allotted massage time, but I will end promptly in order to stay on schedule for my next client.
Q: How early should I arrive?
A: 10-15 minutes. This allows time for hand washing, filling out the intake form, discussing the areas of focus for your massage, and undressing time. After your first visit you might need less time, but it’s still good to arrive 10 or so minutes beforehand so that you can be sure you’ll get your full massage time.
Q: Will I be sore after?
A: It is possible that you’ll be sore after your massage. This doesn’t happen to everyone, but is more likely with a first massage or deep pressure massage. There haven’t been any real studies to figure out why people get sore after a massage, so there’s no way to know for sure who will feel sore and who won’t.
Personally, I think of it like trying a new or difficult physical activity. It’s something your body isn’t used to. Massage affects your circulatory, lymphatic, and muscular systems in ways it’s not used to, and it’s first response is soreness. DOMS, Delayed onset muscle soreness, can show up sometimes a few days after your massage.
